A04-0022 Bicycle Education Programs

Expand successful youth bicycle safety & riding program to three new locations throughout the County, and create a manual for setting up the program at additional locations.
Cycles of Change/Oakland Unified School District $222,750 August 2004   X X X X       NEED Bicycle Friendly Times (BFBC Newsletter) Article: Sept/Oct 04     Programs are underway in three areas. Oakland: 165 students have graduated from the Beginner's Safety Training Course to date. Due to changes in the PE schedule at Life Academy High School, the program focus has shifted to other sites, including a PE program at Bret Harte Middle School. Union City: To date, 158 students have graduated from the after-school programs at 3 middle schools. Berkeley: 152 students have graduated from after-school and PE programs at Tinker's Workshop (a non-profit), and several middle schools. 
A04-0021 Iron Horse Trail

Construct 1-mile of multi-use trail between Busch Rd and Santa Rita Rd. This will be the first segment of the Iron Horse Trail to be built in Pleasanton.

    Construction has begun on the trail segment from Busch to Mohr. Construction is expected to begin on the segment between Mohr and Santa Rita in January 2006, and the entire trail should be complete by April 2006.
A04-0017 San Leandro Bay Trail Slough Bridge

Construct a bridge and 600 feet of trail to connect existing segments of the Bay Trail in the Port of Oakland and Oyster Bay Regional Park.

Will be published in Spring 2005 ACTIA newsletter     Design work is substantially complete. The CEQA process is almost complete and NEPA process has begun. There are still issues to resolve with the Port of Oakland. Additional construction funds are being pursued. An earmark of $600K was secured from Federal TEA-LU. Sponsor is working to close the remaining almost $2.0M gap.  Port of Oakland issues must be resolved before additional funding can be found. Sponsor is requesting a time extension to the grant.
A04-0016 Eastlake Streetscape and Pedestrian Enhancement Project

Construct pedestrian improvements on two blocks of International Boulevard (8th to 10th Avenues) in Oakland, as part of larger Eastlake Project. This additional funding allows completion of full Phase 1 of Project.

A04-0023 UC Berkeley Bicycle Plan

Create the first Bicycle Plan for the UCB campus. Plan will address bike access to campus, circulation within the campus and bike amenities, such as parking.
